Ha Nam - Ly, Tran, Ho, Le dynasties

The capital moving of King Ly Thai To in the year of Canh Tuat (1010) across Ha Nam received material and spiritual contribution of Ha Nam people because this moving needed many human and material resources.

In 1069, King Ly Thanh Tong wrote the imperial edict to fight Chiem Thanh aggressor. When a huge troop of 50,000 soldiers went through Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam people helped much for the King's troop.

Many stories of this troop operation in 1069 and Marshal Ly Thuong Kiet were preserved in Thi Son (Kim Bang).

After the Chiem Thanh victory, King Ly Thanh Tong went by boat across Ly Nhan. "Dai Nam nhat thong chi" wrote: "King Ly Thanh Tong fought Chiem Thanh invader, killed Sa Dau, and caught his wife My E..." and when passing through Ly Nhan, Mrs. My E drowned herself in the river. Now, a temple for worshipping her is still in Ly Nhan.

In the first Nguyen resistance war, Thien Mac River was the residential area of the King and Mandarins of Tran dynasty. The river was short and cut Nhue River at Gie Bridge, passing Phu Xuyen, Hoa Mac, Trac But and poured into Red River. The strategic drawing section in 1258 passed through many places in Ha Nam. Ha Nam people in many regions actively attended to fight the invader, supported materials and protected Tran dynasty's King and Mandarins. Food store in Tran Thuong hamlet, Nhan Dao commune was a proof.

In the second Nguyen resistance war (1285), Tran dynasty' King and Mandarins drawn out of Thang Long along Thien Mac River to go to Thien Truong. On the way of drawing, our troop based on key points to wait the enemy. Many lofty examples of sacrifice were Tran Binh Trong, Le Hoan's descent in Thanh Liem with the trenchant word: "I would rather be Vietnamese ghost than be Northern Wang", Tran Duy Cong, Nguyen Chung Cong and Nguyen Thanh Cong in Binh Luc and thousands of nameless people attending the national resistance. In May 1285, the first match in the Red River defence system took place in Ha Nam and gained the success which had important meaning for reinforcing victory belief of people nationwide. In 1287-1288, Nguyen enemy extravagantly returned to our country and this time were defeated again.

In 1400, Ho Quy Ly usurped the throne of Tran dynasty. In 1407, Ho dynasty was defeated by Minh dynasty in China. Although the struggles of Tran Ngu and Tran Quy Khoang also got some successes, they only prolonged till 1413. In 1426, in Lung Nhai, Le Loi raised the flag against Minh aggressor. Ha Nam people also attended the fighting with enthusiastic and patriotic hearts. Vu Co in Thanh Liem was a guide for Le Loi's army to feat the invader in Ly Nhan, creating favorable conditions for our army to attack Dong Do. Three sisters of singers spent their singing to charm Minh enemies to help our troop to kill them. Ha Nam land remained many vestiges in Thanh field between Lien Tuc and Lien Son communes, away nearly 6 km from Co Long Citadel where the famous against-Minh victory took place. In 1428, Le Loi defeated Minh dynasty's army and set up Le dynasty. During the reigns of Kings Thai To, Thai Tong, Nhan Tong and Thanh Tong, Dai Viet was extremely prosperous. In this time, Ha Nam had many people passing the court's exams such as Dr Nguyen Khac Hieu and Tran Thuan Du in 1429.
